OUR PHILOSOPHY DESIGN – Denmark is renowned for its great designers and Danes are famous throughout the world for their innovation, sophistication and attention to detail when it comes to product design and quality. Therefore we are proud to say that the entire range of our Dutch style bicycles are designed by our in-house design team here in Copenhagen, Denmark - the No. 1 cycling city in the world. Our innovative design approach has resulted in iconic and bespoke sit-up-and-beg style bicycles. At VELORBIS® we value simplicity combined with a streamlined and elegant design. Therefore you will find neither stickers nor plastic on a VELORBIS® bicycle – only the elegantly embossed lion crest crafted from chromed aluminium reveals that you are the proud owner of a VELORBIS® bicycle. We are true to our values when we say: – ’It’s amazing, it’s fantastic – Not a single piece of plastic….’
There is a fine line between the statements ‘HAND BUILT’ and ‘HAND MADE’ and often some confusion between the two. Let us clarify this further. When we say our bicycles and bicycle components are HAND MADE in Europe we mean PRODUCED AND ASSEMBLED here in Europe. This is in sharp contrast to other classic bicycle manufacturers, especially those based in England who claim that their bicycles are HAND BUILT (i.e. not HAND MADE nor PRODUCED) in England. This in fact means that their bicycle components are PRODUCED in China or other countries in the Far East and then imported and assembled (HAND BUILT) in England! Therefore when buying a HAND MADE VELORBIS® bicycle, you can rest assured that the components have been PRODUCED and BUILT (ASSEMBLED) here in Europe to the highest standards. PRACTICALLITY – The hand-built ergonomic design of all our classic models is due to the overall frame dynamics being in complete synergy and perfect proportion. The sit-up-and-beg style provides a posture-friendly and relaxed riding position and gives a high vantage point from which to view the traffic. It also makes it easy to look behind you and take in all of the sights and sounds of the city, like that 19th century Parisian - the flâneur. If you want a fun ride combined with comfort and practicality, then go for our funky Churchill Balloon model. If you are looking for a more classic ride with elegance and comfort and your riding style is more of the chilled out variety, then go for our Churchill classic model. With either option we can ensure you that you will arrive at your destination in style! At VELORBIS® we use enclosed hubs from the renowned (formerly) English hub manufacturers, Sturmey Archer (a SRAM or SHIMANO coaster brake hub is also available). Enclosing the gears protects the machinery from the weather, hence they involve much lower maintenance than the derailleur systems found on most bikes. Other advantages of internal gears are that they are very simple on the outside and come with a chain guard. They are therefore much cleaner, allowing you to cycle in your everyday clothing rather than having to wear specialist cycle gear. All our classic models are fully equipped, which means that they come with mudguards, mud flap, coat or skirt guard, chain guard, enclosed hub driven lights, kick stand, bell and a rear carrier as standard. Such bicycles can be easily and seamlessly integrated into your everyday routine, whether you use it for commuting, shopping or simply arriving in style to meet your friends for a coffee at the local café. With all of our special features, traditional classic bicycles tend to be heavier that mountain bikes, etc. We have therefore equipped all our models with the high quality Chromoly steel, as opposed to the traditional Hi-ten steel frames you will find on other steel-made bicycles on the market today. This initiative reduces the weight of our vintage bicycles to under 20 kilos and makes them a perfect fit for the “traffic jamming” urban commuting. OUR NAME – The word VELORBIS® is a registered Trademark under EU and is composed from the words “VELO” which means “Bicycle” in several European languages and the word “ORBIS” which is the word for “Rotation” in Latin. A simple fact to remember; when pronouncing our name just place the emphasis on the “O”! OUR LION CREST – It is the same with our VELORBIS® lion crest as it is with our bicycles – we have a passion for excellence – reflected in everything that we do. The crest is 100% our own design, incorporating significant details. The 2 lions symbolise the 2 founders of VELORBIS®, who both have LEO as their star signs. The Crown symbolises the fact that the founders both originate from the Kingdoms of Denmark and Sweden – also the United Kingdom as this was where the essence of VELORBIS® emerged. At VELORBIS® we wish to be majestic in everything we do and as such, we have designed our bicycles to be ultra posture-friendly with a relaxed riding position to give a majestic vantage point from which to monitor the traffic and view the surroundings.

QUALITY – A German production site along with a flexible and market-leading supplier base, enable us to offer traditional style ‘best in class’ bicycles that are the highest quality on the market today. We ONLY use European sourced premium components such as BROOKS®, SRAM, Sturmey Archer, Schwalbe, Van Shorthorst, Bush & Muller and BOMI. All VELORBIS® classic bicycles are equipped as standard with all-inclusive leather luxury from BROOKS® - the world-leading English saddle maker since 1866. These exclusive leather components comprise BROOKS® leather saddles, BROOKS® leather grips and BROOKS® leather mud flaps. All of our low maintenance bicycles are specially built to resist the tough Scandinavian weather where snow, frost and salt constantly threaten to attack every single component of your bicycle. To prevent this from happening, we have equipped our models with zinc plated mudguards, powder coated and rust protected chromoly steel frames, stainless steel nuts and bolts, etc. All of these precautionary elements are of course made at our German factory, enabling us to reduce lead times and give us added flexibility to constantly monitor and optimise our quality control process.
