Sunset Magazine cover, May 2010

We were delighted to be invited to Sunset Magazine’s free-wheeling picnic in their May 2010 issue.

Sunset Magazine is a leading US lifestyle publication with nearly 5 million dedicated readers, focusing on the essential elements of achieving West coast style. It’s a premier resource and how-to guide of the very best style, products, travel, food & drink etc. that celebrates the West coast’s healthy, luxurious, inspiring (and achievable) way of life.

On offer was a selection of beautifully delicious, gourmet treats – a yummy medley of food and Velorbis bicycles.

Sunset Magazine provided the refreshments; Velorbis provided the elegant wheels in the form of our ever-popular Dannebrog red ladies bicycle (like strawberries and cream), and Scrap Deluxe gents bike with signature balloon tyres.

The editorial shows that organising a romantic picnic setting with friends or loved ones, preparing mouth-watering recipes, and arriving in ultimate cycle chic style; is as easy as ’a walk (or cycle) in the park.’

Velo Cast review radical eco-friendly Velorbis Mobii

Velo Cast logo

Thanks to our friends at Velo Cast for this great review of our Velorbis Mobii trike, following a test ride around Scotland.

"Heads do turn, and they follow you as you glide past; expressions of intrigue and amusement drawn in equal measure. As you park it up on the high street, brave members of the general public will take the opportunity to ask; "What is it?", "Where does it come from?" and, most interestingly, "Where can I get one?"

Velo Cast hit on the fundamental element of the Mobii tricycle concept. Velorbis Mobii isn’t simply a replacement for a bicycle; it should be equated on the same lines as a small car in terms of functionality, purpose and cost - a real carbon conscious alternative for fun family transport or handy cargo deliveries.

Scott from Velo Cast says:  "The Velorbis Mobii is tailor made for those people that genuinely want to ‘walk-the-eco-walk’ (or should that be pedal?!)...Be radical; drive a Mobii."

Gear Patrol rates Velorbis Leikier as beauty on two wheels

Gear Patrol logo

We're delighted to see this fabulous article by Gear Patrol about our custom built Leikier gents bike.

Gear Patrol is an independently published online journal cited as: 'The definitive resource for the ever-evolving man.' Its Beauty On Two Wheels article by Ben Bowers talks about how the Velorbis Leikier bike was born from the collaboration with Danish designer and blacksmith, Lars Leikier, and inspired by 1950’s motorcycle designs.

"Some things are built to be practical. Other things are meant to simply stun onlookers by the sheer aesthetic awesomeness of their design."
Coming from a site authored and followed by 'aspirational and discriminating men with a unique understanding of value, luxury, and singularity', this is true praise indeed.

London Cycle Chic highly recommends Velorbis Churchill Balloon

Velorbis Churchill Balloon gents bicycle

Praise indeed! Thanks to our friends at London Cycle Chic for their great review of our “devilishly handsome” Churchill Balloon gents bicycle.

Matt Smith, the official Cyclechic chap has been taking it for a regular spin around the busy streets of London. The London Cycle Chic review says that Churchill Balloon "feels smooth, solid, expensive."

Creating the perfect riding experience is what drives Velorbis and our Churchill Balloon gents bike certainly scores top marks.

According to London Cycle Chic, Velorbis Churchill Balloon is "about as far away from bog-standard as you can get. Riding it actually makes you feel different, somehow improved, enhanced, actually pretty cool....when I ride around London Town on my Velorbis I get looked at, pointed at, talked to, admired, even revered. That is a pretty remarkable effect when you think about it, for what is after all only a bike (I’m not vain or stupid enough to think it has anything to do with me by the way). And it’s the main reason I love it and recommend it to all the people who stop me and ask me about it."

Velorbis loves London. It’s great to hear that Londoners also love Velorbis and that Churchill Balloon is bringing a touch of chilled, chic, cycling style to its streets.

Velorbis Student Balloon voted pick of the bunch by Bicycle Buyer

Check out this excellent review of our fabulously funky Student Balloon gents bike in the February-March issue of The Bicycle Buyer magazine on page 2.

The Bicycle Buyer is a leading UK consumer publication that offers readers a smart, inspirational guide for buying bicycles. The article "Styles for Miles" features in-depth reviews and comparative test rides of classic bikes available in the UK:

"And while they’ve been a holiday snap friendly feature of Dutch and Scandinavian society for decades they’ve been slow to catch on here in Britain, with possibly the notable exceptions of Oxford and Cambridge. But things are changing, discerning ladies and gents are starting to snap up these beautiful bikes, which they can gently spin around town with the minimum amount of fuss and still in their glad rags."

In the round up at the end (page 8), we’re pleased to say that Student Balloon is voted pick of the bunch.

It’s great to see that the UK’s love affair with chic cycling culture and vintage style bicycles is blooming.

Australia likes Velorbis’ family friendly transport solution

KidStyleFile, Australia’s first and best resource dedicated to finding beautiful premium children’s products, has spotted the Velorbis Mobii trike and immediately seen its benefits for safe (and fun) family friendly transportation.

As the KidStyleFile article mentions, in Denmark it’s not unusual for a person to go through life without ever possessing a car, such is the strength and popularity of its design heritage and cycling culture. A tricycle is a great investment that in the long-term pays for itself and eliminates the need for fuel. According to KidStyleFile, Velorbis Mobii is "perfect for families" – those who are serious about adopting a green lifestyle.

Australia is famous for its healthy citizens and outdoor lifestyle. It’s no surprise that the chic and healthy influence from Copenhagen cycling culture, and great Danish design, is being adopted country-wide.

Velorbis featured in Australian Cyclist’s Pedal Paradise

Australian Cyclist_cover Jan-Feb 2010

Velorbis was featured in this great article in the latest issue of Australian Cyclist about urban cycling in Australia, and how Copenhagen cycling culture is influencing this movement and investment in future infrastructure.

Pedal Paradise by Robin Barton talks about "Jan Gehl, the 74 year-old godfather of bike friendly urban design was at the forefront of Copenhagen’s transformation. Now consulted by cities from Melbourne, Perth and Sydney to New York and London on how they can be more like Copenhagen."

The Australian Cyclist article also talks about how cycling can give a sense of community: "I think people are aware it gives them quality of life. They can move about the city in a different way. They can be part of city life. They can dress themselves in the city." A lovely way of thinking and a concept that Velorbis endorses.

VeloCast review of Velorbis Churchill Balloon

Check out the latest review, pics and podcast of the Velorbis Churchill Balloon gents bike on VeloCast.

Scott; one of the VeloCasters took our regally funky gents model for a spin in beautiful Scotland: “But all the talk of the smooth ride, the hand built frame, or the intelligent use of components really doesn’t sum up the feeling you get from riding this bike.  Velorbis have managed to do that rarest of things: create a bike that is greater than the sum of its parts.  The experience of riding the Churchill Balloon just makes you happy.  Happy to be out in the fresh air and happy to be on this bike.  Suddenly all is well with the world and you find yourself smiling.”

Churchill Balloon was also a topic point in VeloCast's Episode 59 podcast where the team were joined by Jeff Helfand from Veloreviews.com. The team also discussed bike sharing schemes with a difference, Lance Armstrong’s mind games and other cycling-related news.

Thanks to Scott and John for the rave reviews.

Velorbis bicycles becoming even more popular in North America

Cycle and Style banner

We spotted this good article – “Going Dutch” by Cycle and Style, the online women's magazine bringing together cycling, style and health.

The article talks about how Dutch-style bicycles from Europe, such as Velorbis, are making an impact across the 'pond’ and are fast becoming a high trend must-have item with a core following by style savvy, health conscious consumers.

“The bicycles put their riders in the kind sitting-up-straight position that your mother taught you was best. It is an elegant position—a way to survey the streetscape around you in comfort. A girl can easily wear high heels, a dress and a past-the-knees coat as she pedals off to work, to school or to the café down the street for lunch with friends.”

The article also talks about the number of classic bike stockists which are rising up throughout the US and Canada, in particular Copenhagen Cyclery, the European upright bike specialist and Velorbis dealer in Chicago.

This increase in availability means that it’s now even easier in North America to enjoy a Velorbis “'Copenhagen Chic’ look that will have you commuting in style”, such as with the Velorbis Victoria Classic or Dannebrog retro ladies bikes that are included in the article.
